What’s in a jacket
This jacket symbolises 250+ hours of training, generous donor and sponsor financial contributions via the Defence Bank Foundation; $30k of training and support of the Veteran and their dog for their time within the program.
It represents long term supporters, dedicated staff, Veteran mentors, families, Defence Bank staff, professional dog trainers, inmates, Correctional Facilities, the Bathurst Community, Bathurst RSL and the Veterans Benevolent Fund as long term contributors to the Defence Community Dogs program.
The jacket symbolises a dedication to best practice, to continual improvement, to listening and adapting our service, to treating Veterans as individuals, and pairing the dogs with them, as a person - to meet their individual needs. Setting them up as a team for long term success. Providing in person handover, and ongoing online training.
The DCD jacket represents a community dedicated to our Veterans. To thanking them for their service, and providing the support they need, when they need it, as they need it.
This jacket is a symbol of hope, purpose, goodwill and opportunity. That together we can make a difference. To help our Veterans to rebuild. To save lives and to improve lives. One paw at a time.
Defence Community Dogs is an independent program that provides, at no cost, highly trained Assistance Dogs to serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) Members, who need physical and emotional support for mood, depressive and anxiety disorders; including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
